The tour begins with pickup from your hotel in Tenerife to explore the island's agricultural and commercial history, connecting the north of Tenerife with the legacy of the former 'Sugar Islands.' From Garachico to Icod de los Vinos The first stop is the historic village of Garachico, where you'll take a walking tour through its cobbled streets and along its natural lava coastline. You'll learn how this harbor prospered thanks to the export of sugar before the volcanic eruption of 1706. Next, the itinerary continues in Icod de los Vinos to gaze upon the famous Millenary Dragon Tree and learn how vineyard cultivation replaced sugarcane plantations from the 16th century onwards. The Daute Sugar Mill and Rum Tasting The highlight of the sightseeing tour takes place on the coast of Los Silos. You'll visit the only 19th-century sugar mill still standing in Tenerife, restored by the British company Lathbury & Co in 1883. During the guided visit of these facilities, part of the English industrial heritage: You'll see the original wooden beams that still bear the stamp of British harbors with the word 'Dante' (a mistake from the time when referring to the Daute region). You'll learn about the evolution of the land, which successively hosted sugar cane, vineyards, tomatoes and bananas. You'll discover the artisanal distillation process from cane to rum. You'll take part in a guided tasting of local rums before the transport back to your hotel.
