The holy week celebrations in Guimar are considered some of the most notorious and important in Tenerife and include a whole host of impressively grand religious ceremonies and parades.
The most important dates in the diary are Lunes Santo, or holy Monday on the 10th April when images of Christ on the cross form a procession with a following of penitents from San Pedro to the Matriz homónima Church.
The following Wednesday is another procession with more images of “San Juan”, “La Magdalena”, “Nuestra Señora de los Dolores” and “Jesús Nazareno”.
First thing in the morning on Good Friday, 14th April the image of Christ the Expiration or black Christ is taken from San Juan de the Santo Domingo Church, followed by the biggest procession in the afternoon the Magna, where all the images and pentinents walk together through the streets.
