Description
The Palmetum covers 12 hectares with carefully designed landscapes featuring two lakes, a stream, three waterfalls, and volcanic rock formations. Originally a municipal landfill, this site now thrives as a recreational space with rich plant life thanks to international collaborations.
With around 3,000 tropical and subtropical plant species, the garden focuses on the palm family (Arecaceae), showcasing over 600 species organized by geographic origin. The collection emphasizes island palms from regions such as Madagascar, the Caribbean, and Polynesia.
Visitors can enjoy peaceful walks while capturing views over the sea and Santa Cruz city from the hillside location.
