Description
The Cathedral Church in the heart of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, a city designated a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1999, is a notable landmark. Its origins date back to the 16th century when it was built as the Parroquia de los Remedios, hence its present name. Not until 1819 was it established as a Cathedral. The building was completely rebuilt at the beginning of the 20th century, resulting in the present structure.
Declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1983, the only original part of the building that remains is its grand neoclassical facade.
As we step inside, the neo-Gothic style is prominent, displayed in its high ribbed vaults and ambulatory. Among its main attractions are the Baroque altarpiece of the Virgen de los Remedios and the monumental pulpit, crafted from Italian marble. The Cathedral's great Treasury room also boasts a wealth of patrimonial and artistic treasures.
Experience the Cathedral with cutting-edge audio guides translated into five languages.
