Description
On the way to the Teide National Park, a UNESCO heritage site. We will cross the entire park, making different stops to learn about its geology, flora and fauna. You will discover numerous volcanic formations and extraordinary landscapes.
We will then go back down the large valley of La Orotava, crossing the forest crown composed mainly of Canarian pines (pinus canariensis), then a succession of terraces with varied crops of vegetables, viticulture, avocados, etc. We will have lunch in a Canarian cuisine restaurant where you can savor local specialties and local wine in an authentic setting.
After the meal, we will visit the town of La Orotava. Its historic center is classified as a national historical-artistic monument. Among the most remarkable buildings and monuments in the old town are the parish of Nuestra Señora de la Concepción and the Casas de los Balcones, a masterpiece of traditional architecture. La Orotava also has a garden containing tropical plants from South America, Central Africa and Australia, the Victoria Garden.
In the northwest of the island of Tenerife, Icod de los Vinos is an example of a town created and developed from the use of countryside and agriculture. Known for the fame of its wines in the 16th century, it housed an important sugar mill in Tenerife. Partially destroyed by a fire in 1798, it was carefully rebuilt to take advantage of its green spaces. The old town extends around the main church of San Marcos, the Lorenzo Cáceres and Pila squares and the Convent of San Francisco.
A walk through Icod de los Vinos is only complete with a visit to its famous ancient dragon tree. A unique plant species from the Canary Islands and other islands of Macaronesia, its age is estimated at around eight centuries. End of the excursion and return to the hotel.
