Then there’s the music. Thursdays and Sundays are all about live tunes. The vibe changes depending on who’s playing, but it’s always relaxed, feel-good stuff. From laid-back acoustic to punchy vocals, this is the kind of afternoon entertainment that puts you in a holiday mood whether you’re two days in or you've just arrived.

Sunday Sessions are the standout. Again, hosted by Gary Barnes, but with a rotating list of singers like Emma Blacka and a few other surprise guests. Thursdays get a musical boost too with Emma Jensen performing 4:15–5:15.

They take bookings via Facebook or email, and on busy days you’ll be glad you did. There’s seating inside and out while you’re sipping something cold and deciding whether or not to get up and dance.

In a nutshell, The Old Pal Bar doesn’t pretend to be flashy. It’s a no-fuss, great-value spot that gets the basics right.
