Did you know, the saying, 'beauty is only skin deep', was first uttered in 1613 by Sir Thomas Overbury in his poem, “A Wife”?
“External attractiveness has no relation to goodness or essential quality.” He wrote. “All the carnall beauty of my wife is but skin-deep.”
Sage words that will certainly resonate at the Gala for the crowning of the Los Cristianos Senior Carnival Queen.
The show starts at 9pm on Tuesday March 17th and is one of many celebrations making up the Carnival Programme starting on March 12th and continuing until March 23rd when it culminates with the Burial of the Sardine - the ritual carried out to forgive the indulgences of Carnival by burning and burying a giant paper maché sardine.
